PTI stated in an announcement that this year’s winners have “proven they have exceptional talent, great ideas, a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, creativity, technology leadership and proven technology best practices across the entire enterprise.”

When discussing receipt of the award, Durham County Manager Wendell M. Davis said, “As Durham County embarks upon a new journey in innovation, as well as technology applications that enhance the quality of life for our citizens, I am elated about the energy, drive and passion of our Information Services and Technology Department as they explore and implement best management practices. This Tech Savvy Award represents another milestone getting our community closer to the cutting edge.”

Highlighted for Durham was the County’s computer donation program. Durham County partners with local organizations to supply, refurbish, and redistribute County computers to bridge the digital divide within Durham County.

PTI Deputy Executive Director for Research and Government Services, Rhonda Mosley, said, “This is a well-deserved recognition for all your efforts, over the years, to be a first class local government and to create technology programs that serve your constituents internally and externally.”

The PTI 2016 Tech Savvy Award recognizes PTI member local governments that use technology to address issues, current challenges and future opportunities across the enterprise. This is Durham County’s first year winning the award. The other five recipients of the award are Evanston, IL; Mesa, AZ; Montgomery County, MD; Pinellas County, FL; and Sacramento County, CA.

Durham County was presented with the recognition at the PTI Local Government Chief Information Officers’ Summit in Orlando, FL. Durham County Chief Information Officer Greg Marrow received the award.

PTI actively supports local government executives and elected officials through research, education, executive-level consulting services, and national recognition programs. For more information about the PTI Tech Savvy Award and organization, visit http://www.pti.org/.
